The Formation Evaluation Society of Australia (FESAus), the Australian chapter of Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA), is privileged to be the host of the 51st Annual International SPWLA Conference in Perth, Western Australia, in June 2010.

FESAus was born in July 2007 of the integration of the pre-existing Formation Evaluation societies of different states of Australia, and has become one of the most active and vibrant local chapters of the SPWLA.  It has over 200 active local members from across Australia, who together represent a wide range of operators and service companies of the regional oil and gas industry. More about FESAus can be found at http://www.fesaus.org.

About the oil and gas industry in Perth, Western Australia:

Perth, in Western Australia, has become a de facto centre of the ausralian oil and gas industry.  A number of leading global oil companies such as Chevron, BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Apache, and Eni have their regional headquarters in Perth.  Australia’s two major oil and gas companies, Woodside Energy, the operator of the giant North-West Shelf LNG Project, and BHP Billiton Petroleum, both have their corporate headquarters there.  The concentration of active companies of all sizes results in dynamic programmes of exploration, appraisal, development and production, both onshore and offshore, in the state, the country, and further afield.

The petroleum operators are ably serviced in all facets of their work by a wide range of service companies, including Baker Hughes, Halliburton, Schlumberger and Weatherford, together with numerous specialist groups and consultancies with offices in Perth.  Perth also boasts a strong academic presence with the campuses of four universities, as well as the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Earth Science Research Laboratory. One of our Perth universities, Curtin University, supports the petroleum industry with a Department of Petroleum Engineering including a Chair for Petrophysics.
